Dual Pro Sportsman SE3 Marine Battery Charger

The Dual Pro Sportsman SE3 marine battery charger is a 3 bank, independent output, 10 amp 12 volt per bank, temperature compensation charger. The SE series are heavy duty, waterproof, and fully potted for vibration resistance. They feature powder coated aluminum bases suitable for salt water environments. They can be built as portable chargers, with a handle and alligator clips. The independent output battery chargers have a separate positive and negative connector for each bank, and a separate microprocessor for each bank which controls the charging algorithm. They can be used on batteries of differing state of charge, age, size, or type (sealed, flooded). This works well in marine applications with a starting battery and a trolling setup. It also is suitable for series strings of 12 volt batteries for 24 or 36 volts. After each battery has its own positive and negative connection, the microprocessor for each bank does not care if they are in series or parallel. This is useful in 24 volt or 36 volt applications where one of the 12 volt batteries in the string is supplying some 12 volt loads (like communications, radar, etc.), and the batteries end up with an imbalance. A straight output 24 volt or 36 volt charger used in this situation would not properly charge the batteries and fix the imbalance.

The Sportsman SE3 three output 10 amp battery charger is appropriate for 12 to 36 volt applications where wet or harsh environments exist. They have provisions for mounting (permanent installation), and are built for water, vibration, and temperature. They are used in boating applications, like boats with a starting battery and a trolling motor system. In a trolling application, we recommend batteries up to about 100 amp hours capacity with this model. The 110 to 150 amp hour setups should use a 15 amp per bank charger. The SE3 is a well built charger, which can be mounted onboard for years of dependable service. They are built in the USA, which is uncommon for electronic items. Each output must be connected to a battery (can be the same battery) for the charger to operate.

The Dual Pro chargers shut off when the battery reaches a full charge, and the charger monitors battery voltage, starting another charge cycle if battery voltage dictates it. Some battery engineers prefer this method of charging to decrease water/electrolyte loss.
